Downtown Engagement in the rain
When Katie & Ryan flew in from New York, the only thing they really really wanted from their engagement session was to be outside. And it was one of those rainy weekends in Austin--rain predicted all weekend! (No matter). They were up for it and so were we! Courtney, a very talented JLW photographer, assisted me, and we met them at Lambert's BBQ on Second Street. The four of us walked the alleys and streets of downtown, armed with umbrellas and good cheer. Katie was a little chilly and we all got a little damp, but not even challenging weather could interfere with the palpable love you could feel between Katie & Ryan. And, if not for the rain, we couldn't have these kinds of images in this gorgeous light, nor would we have finished up in a parking lot of all places!

Trisha and Clint's Engagement Session
Trisha Bennett is an amazingly talented florist with Visual Lyrics (www.visuallyrics.com), and I had the pleasure of photographing her engagement session and wedding earlier this year. Now she is doing the flowers at our wedding which is just over than 2 weeks away!
Trisha's husband Clint, is a professional mechanic, and has a passion for restoring old cars. She really wanted a setting for their engagement photos that would have meaning for them. Through their friends, we had access to a garage and body shop for our engagement session.
Thanks to Trisha and Clint for taking me someplace totally new! Images from their wedding to come...

Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine and the team!

One of the things about I love about photographing weddings besides my wonderful clients is my amazing team. I get to work with Susi Brister, my associate photographer, who on this very night is having an opening in one of Montreal's top art galleries! Courtney McCullough is hands down "the master of details," with her tripod in tow and a quietly determined look on her face. Nick Enghardt is there shooting, lugging, running, and always with a smile and a decent looking necktie. Anne Butler was just accepted into the Master's Program at UT Austin for nursing and will be fulfilling her dream of doing critical care work for Doctors without Borders and here, locally.
One of Anne's photos from a stunning wedding we did last May at Barton Creek Country Club, with Clink Events, was featured in the Winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. I always love Anne's first dance images, (image is bottom left on the page) and this one was no exception. She also got published on the same page as photographer Daniel Milnor (http://www.milnorpictures.com) who is one of our favorites!
This has ended up being a little love note to the team, for all the blog reading world to see. Thanks guys! I couldn't do it without you, and wouldn't want to! And here's to next weekend...

Bridal Portrait Fun
More and more of my brides want to do something different for their bridal portrait sessions, in addition to getting the full length, more traditional poses. Sometimes we head downtown, and photograph in the alleys. One of the portraits below was taken in the bathroom of the One World Theatre! You never know where you might find the right combination of place, light, and moment. This blog post is dedicated to those women who went for it!!!

Kids & Weddings
Yesterday I got to meet my bride who is in from NYC, Kate, her mother, Ann, and her wedding planner Tammy Gorral of Sparkling Engagements. It was excellent to meet face to face before the wedding which is this Saturday! Kate & her fiance Adrian love kids in general and love their nieces and nephews in particular. We covered a great deal of ground discussing the wedding and the entire day and reception, and I loved how important it is to Kate to include kids at their wedding and to make sure that they are photographed! I decided to post this image of kids-in-a -post-wedding-reception-state-of-tired-bliss as a harbinger of things to come from the wedding this weekend. I can't wait!

August on the road--3 Destination Weddings in a row!

August has been an incredible month! I started out with flying into Iowa for Kylie & John's engagement session and then photographed John & Bria's gorgeous outdoor wedding in Cedar Rapids, where I had the pleasure of working alongside Quad Cities based photographer Jeff Wros, with my fiance' Jim, assisting us. I'm posting some quick favorites from the wedding below.
Also to come are images from my second August wedding in the Laurentian Mountains, just outside of Montreal. Susi and I had a blast at Laura & Dylan's camp wedding and then ate and walked our way through Montreal!
And now I am writing from Barbados where Heather Mabry (Eclectic Images' incredibly talented owner) & I are having our final girl's night. I am so excited! Heather brought me along with her to photograph a beach wedding on Friday and since then we have been exploring the island and snorkeling with sea turtles. The wedding was stunning and I will never forget taking portraits of Candice & Matt on the beach while the tide roared in, soaking my pants, Candice's dress, and almost taking Heather's shoe out to sea for good! More fun piccies to come...
